Job description

Job Title: VMT (Vehicle Maintenance Technician)

Area: Plymouth

Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday (Days) Back Shift Mon to Fri 11am till 10pm

Employment Type: Permanent

Salary: £43,108 per annum (Basic), OTE first year £57,108

Signing Bonus: £5,000

Annual Bonus: £2,000

Holidays: 25 days plus Bank Holidays, increasing per year worked

Responsibilities

As a VMT you will be responsible for carrying out general maintenance and repair work on the company's fleet of vehicles and trailers, ensuring that all vehicles are in safe working order.

Your role requires you to execute repairs to the highest standards while conducting in-depth engineering work and diagnostics.

You should be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a close-knit team.

Its crucial that all repairs are performed in accordance with current Health and Safety legislation and company policies.

Additionally, you will need to safely operate all relevant equipment, machines, and tools, and complete all associated documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

Key Skills & Knowledge
  • Education to City & Guilds standard in Mechanical Engineering or possess an equivalent engineering discipline.
  • Previous experience as an HGV Mechanic in a similar role is essential.
  • Preferable to hold an HGV C+E licence (Class 1) and a current ADR, but not mandatory.
  • Strong working knowledge of vehicles, trailers, workshop plant, and equipment, with ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic problems.
  • Ability to multitask, meet key deadlines, exhibit rigorous fault‑finding skills, strong communication skills, and ability to work effectively under pressure.
