THE ROLE

The company and the role of design are maturing rapidly at Certinia, and we need experienced designers to help us embed design techniques into every product decision. You will form part of a product team working alongside a product owner and our software engineers. You will be accountable for ensuring that our users' needs are well understood and our products feel familiar, inspire confidence, and make users productive. As a UX Designer II, you will be a vital member of our cross-product design team, carrying out the majority of UX tasks without supervision. You will collaborate on project work, support your colleagues' efforts, and help set the design direction at Certinia. This role demands a high-functioning professional capable of advising product managers, mentoring junior designers, and evolving our design practices.

WHAT YOU WILL DO IN THIS ROLE
  • Strategic Vision & Direction: Define and maintain user personas, facilitate vision types, collaborate with product leadership, support design definition, and champion a holistic view of the user experience.
  • End-to-End Design: Carry out all aspects of the UX design process, from discovery and research to prototyping, testing, and final visual design, with minimal to no supervision.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Management: Foster collaboration with PMM, Content Leads, and Engineering Managers. Participate in release planning, build relationships with Solution Engineers, act as a point of contact for enterprise customers and escalations, and align with UX PMs.
  • Task Management: Divide larger, complex bodies of work into actionable tasks for yourself and manage your own time effectively.
  • Product Engagement: Proactively engage with Product Managers and feature crews to understand, clarify, and challenge requirements, providing expert advice on UX feasibility and strategy.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and resolve unanticipated UX issues that arise during the product development phases.
  • Design System Contribution: Evolve and refine existing design patterns and contribute to our central design system.
  • Process Evolution: Actively evolve our design and research techniques based on industry best practices and your own experience.
  • Mentorship: Mentor Associate and UX Designer I colleagues, facilitating workshops and helping them grow in their craft.
  • Community Engagement: Attend and contribute to UX-focused meetings outside of your immediate feature crew.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE

Required Skills & Approach

  • Facilitation: Skilled in actively harvesting team insights using collaborative techniques such as design workshops, which you are comfortable leading.
  • Prototyping: Ability to make ideas tangible, focusing on the level of fidelity appropriate for the problem and optimizing for quick learning.
  • Usability Testing: Proficient in running usability tests and turning findings into actionable improvements.
  • Visual & Interaction Design: Creative problem solving that aligns with and helps evolve design patterns and principles.
  • Collaborative-first Attitude: Behaviors centered around team success, expecting the same of others.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Educating scrum teams on user-centered design techniques and actively mentoring less experienced designers.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to navigate unclear requirements and complex problems, applying critical thought to find the best path forward.
  • Product Knowledge: Thorough understanding of application standards and solutions for enterprise software, with a love for solving complex problems for intricate business processes.
