Overview

Non-executive opportunity. University Governor: Chair of Risk and Audit Committee

The University of Winchester is a confident and ambitious institution, providing a transformative educational experience through excellence in teaching and research and championing student success across a broad subject portfolio.

The University is seeking a new Governor to join the Board of Governors, and additionally act in the capacity of Chair of the Risk and Audit Committee. Governors are appointed for an initial term of three years.

Responsibilities
  • The Board of Governors is responsible for the overall governance of the University, including assurance that the conditions of registration set by the Higher Education regulator are being met. The Board acts in a non-executive capacity and is not involved in day-to-day operations.
  • As Chair of the Risk and Audit Committee, the role includes risk management, assurance of financial accounting and statutory reporting, and oversight of internal and external audit activities.
  • Take part in the governance process as part of a collegiate leadership team, including working effectively with executive/leadership teams.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience of audit, risk management and/or finance, ideally in higher education or with knowledge of the sector.
  • Experience working effectively with executive/leadership teams is essential due to the non-executive nature of the role.

Time Commitment and Remuneration

The overall time commitment for this position is approximately twenty-five days per year (a mix of face-to-face and online/remote meetings). This appointment is of a public service nature and is therefore not remunerated. Reasonable expenses to cover travel and other direct expenses will be reimbursed.
