Job summary

VWFS UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join our Legal & Compliance Team. You will ensure adherence to UK data protection laws, advise senior leaders, support the DPO, and manage breaches while driving privacy initiatives.

You will guide on regulatory changes, maintain ROPAs, perform DPIAs, and interact with the ICO. A pragmatic, regulatory mindset and strong stakeholder skills are essential for this pivotal role.

Qualifications

• Proven data protection advisory experience within Compliance or Legal functions at a specialist level.
• Strong understanding of ICO guidance, codes and regulatory expectations in consumer credit or retail banking.
• Ability to manage complex, time-sensitive workloads with precision and professionalism.
• Researching, analysing and interpreting complex regulatory information and presenting it clearly.
• Comfortable challenging views and interpreting regulatory guidance with accuracy and proportionality.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and negotiate.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance to the business on UK Data Protection laws and regulatory changes.
• Maintain Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA).
• Assist with Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
• Lead the assessment, oversight and reporting of personal data breaches and MI reporting to senior forums.
• Act as a key contact for front-line teams on DSARs, complaints and litigation matters related to data protection.
• Develop and execute second-line monitoring activities to assess compliance and drive improvements.
• Liaise with the ICO on customer complaints and regulatory enquiries, ensuring robust investigations.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance colleagues to resolve data protection issues.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data protection compliance and operational efficiency.
