Job summary

VWFS UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join the Legal & Compliance Team. You will ensure compliance with UK data protection laws, advise business units and senior leaders, support the DPO in fulfilling statutory duties, and lead initiatives from DPIAs to breach oversight.

Qualifications

• Experience providing data protection advice within Compliance or Legal functions (specialist level).
• Strong understanding of ICO guidance and regulatory expectations in consumer credit or retail banking.
• Ability to manage complex, time-sensitive workloads with precision and professionalism.
• Skilled at researching, analysing and interpreting regulatory information and presenting it clearly.
• Able to challenge views and interpret regulatory guidance with accuracy and proportionality.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement, with influencing and negotiating skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on UK Data Protection laws and regulatory changes.
• Support maintenance of Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA).
• Assist in Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
• Lead the assessment, oversight, and reporting of personal data breaches, including MI reporting.
• Act as contact for front-line teams on DSARs, complaints and litigation matters related to data protection.
• Develop second-line monitoring activities to assess compliance and drive improvements.
• Liaise with the ICO on customer complaints and regulatory enquiries, ensuring robust investigations and responses.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance colleagues to resolve data protection issues.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data protection compliance and operational efficiency.
