Job summary

VWFS UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join our Legal & Compliance Team. You will ensure compliance with UK data protection laws, advise senior leaders, and support our DPO in fulfilling statutory duties.

You will manage DPIAs, ROPA, data breach investigations, and regulatory interactions with the ICO, while driving continuous improvement across the organisation. A pragmatic, collaborative approach and strong stakeholder engagement are essential.

Qualifications

• Proven experience providing data protection advice within Compliance/Legal functions.
• Excellent understanding of ICO guidance and regulatory expectations in consumer credit or retail banking.
• Ability to manage complex, time-sensitive workloads with precision and professionalism.
• Skilled at researching, analysing and interpreting regulatory information.
• Able to challenge views and interpret regulatory guidance accurately and proportionally.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on UK Data Protection laws and regulatory changes.
• Maintain Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA).
• Assist with Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
• Lead assessment, oversight and reporting of personal data breaches, including MI reporting to senior forums.
• Be a key contact for front-line teams on DSARs, complaints and litigation matters.
• Develop and execute second-line monitoring to assess compliance.
• Liaise with the ICO on complaints and regulatory enquiries.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance colleagues to resolve DP/privacy issues.
• Drive continuous improvement to enhance DP compliance and efficiency.
