VWFS UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join our Legal & Compliance Team. You will ensure compliance with UK Data Protection laws, advise business units, support the DPO, and lead initiatives from DPIAs to breach management.

The role requires strong regulatory knowledge, stakeholder engagement, and a pragmatic approach to risk. You will liaise with the ICO, drive continuous improvement, and collaborate across the business to protect customer data and maintain trust.

Qualifications

• Proven experience providing data protection advice within Compliance/Legal functions.
• Excellent understanding of ICO guidance, codes and regulatory expectations in consumer credit or retail banking.
• Ability to manage complex, time-sensitive workloads with precision and professionalism.
• Researching, analysing and interpreting regulatory information clearly.
• Ability to challenge views and interpret regulatory guidance with accuracy.
• Strong communication and influencing skills across stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on UK Data Protection laws and regulatory changes.
• Maintain Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA).
• Assist in conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
• Lead the assessment, oversight, and reporting of personal data breaches, including MI reporting to senior forums.
• Act as primary contact for DSARs, complaints and litigation matters related to data protection.
• Develop and execute second-line monitoring to assess compliance and drive improvements.
• Liaise with the ICO on complaints and regulatory inquiries.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance colleagues to resolve privacy issues.
• Drive continuous improvement to enhance data protection compliance and operational efficiency.
