Job summary

VWFS UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join our Legal & Compliance team in the UK. You will ensure compliance with UK Data Protection laws, advise business units and senior leaders, support the DPO, manage data breaches, DPIAs, and DSARs, and engage with regulators.

You will collaborate across the business to improve privacy and compliance processes and drive continuous improvement in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience providing data protection advice within Compliance or Legal functions.
• Strong understanding of ICO guidance, codes and regulatory expectations.
• Ability to manage complex, time-sensitive workloads with precision and professionalism.
• Skilled at researching, analysing, interpreting and presenting regulatory information.
• Able to challenge views and interpret regulatory guidance accurately and proportionally.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills to influence and negotiate.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on UK Data Protection laws and regulatory changes.
• Support maintenance of Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA).
• Assist with Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
• Lead assessment, oversight and reporting of personal data breaches and MI reporting.
• Act as a point of contact for DSARs, complaints and litigation matters.
• Develop and execute second-line monitoring to assess compliance and drive improvements.
• Liaise with the ICO on complaints and regulatory inquiries, ensuring robust investigations.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance colleagues to resolve privacy-related issues.
• Drive continuous improvements to data protection compliance and operational efficiency.
