Job summary

VWFS UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join our Legal & Compliance Team. You’ll ensure the organisation stays compliant with UK data protection laws and regulatory requirements, acting as a trusted adviser to business units and senior leaders.

You’ll support the DPO, manage data breach responses, oversee risk, and engage with regulators, driving continuous improvement and pragmatic privacy solutions across the group.

Qualifications

• Proven data protection advisory experience within Compliance or Legal.
• Strong understanding of ICO guidance and regulatory expectations in consumer credit or retail banking.
• Ability to manage complex, time-sensitive workloads with precision and professionalism.
• Researching, analysing and interpreting complex regulatory information; presenting it clearly.
• Comfortable challenging views and interpreting regulatory guidance with accuracy.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with ability to influence.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on UK data protection laws and regulatory changes.
• Maintain Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA).
• Assist with Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
• Lead the assessment, oversight and reporting of personal data breaches, including MI reporting to senior forums.
• Act as a key contact for front-line teams on DSARs, complaints and litigation matters related to data protection.
• Develop and execute second-line monitoring activities to assess compliance and drive improvements.
• Liaise with the ICO on customer complaints and regulatory enquiries, ensuring robust investigations and responses.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance colleagues to resolve data protection and privacy issues.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data protection compliance and operational efficiency.
