Job summary

VWFS UK is seeking a knowledgeable Data Protection Specialist to join our Legal & Compliance Team, ensuring compliance with UK data protection laws and regulatory requirements. You’ll act as a trusted advisor to business units and senior leaders, supporting the DPO and leading key privacy initiatives.

You’ll manage ROPA, DPIAs and data breach oversight, handle DSARs, engage with the ICO, and collaborate across the business to improve risk and privacy controls.

Qualifications

• Experience providing data protection advice within Compliance or Legal functions.
• Strong knowledge of ICO guidance and regulatory expectations in consumer credit or retail banking.
• Ability to manage complex, time-sensitive workloads with precision and professionalism.
• Skilled at researching, analysing, interpreting and presenting regulatory information.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on UK Data Protection laws and regulatory changes.
• Maintain Registers of Processing Activities (ROPA).
• Assist in undertaking Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA).
• Lead assessment, oversight, and reporting of personal data breaches, including MI reporting to senior forums.
• Act as a key contact for front-line teams on DSARs, complaints and litigation matters related to data protection.
• Develop and execute second-line monitoring to assess compliance and drive improvements.
• Liaise with the ICO on customer complaints and regulatory inquiries.
• Collaborate with Legal & Compliance colleagues to resolve data protection issues.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data protection compliance and operational efficiency.
