Senior UI Artist

UK Remote or West Midlands Based - Birmingham / Full-Time Contractor

Role And Purpose

We are seeking a talented and creative Senior UI Artist to join our team. You'll be responsible for designing and directing the creation of visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces for our game development projects. You will collaborate closely with our internal teams and co-development partners to ensure that our games provide an exceptional user experience. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled UI artist who stays up to date with the latest design & art trends and technologies and possesses excellent visual design and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the creation of visually stunning and intuitive user interfaces for AAA games projects, following best practices in user-centred design.
• Communicate and collaborate with development teams to establish and uphold the quality bar of the game's UI, ensuring a consistent and cohesive visual identity.
• Create mock-ups and prototypes using industry-standard design tools, effectively communicating UI concepts and interactions.
• Help manage the day-to-day progress of UI development, supporting your team with project-specific processes and problem-solving.
• Build upon and champion best pipeline practices for asset creation, optimization, and performance, ensuring artwork meets visual quality standards and runs smoothly across target platforms.
• Work with the Production team to support the planning of the UI requirements of our games.
• Lead by example, keeping an enthusiastic attitude for the project whilst motivating and supporting a diverse team.
• Participate in staff interviews, onboarding, mentorship programs and performance reviews, fostering skill development and artistic growth.
• Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and artistic techniques to continually push the boundaries of game art and contribute fresh ideas to the team.

Requirements

• Professional experience in a Senior art role for games, with a strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional visual design skills, a keen eye for detail and originality.
• High level of understanding of the UI Art creation and implementation pipeline for game engines.
• Highly proficient in relevant industry-standard software, such as Photoshop, Figma, and Unreal Engine's UMG.
• A creative eye and care for art direction in your own work and the work of your team.
• Excellent understanding of art fundamentals, including composition, colour theory, form and structure.
• Strong support-focused interpersonal skills, able to communicate, collaborate and mentor effectively.
• Able to manage your time effectively, delegating and prioritising based on project need.
• A passion for gaming and a commitment to delivering visually stunning and captivating gaming experiences.
• Experience designing for multiple platforms.
• Proficiency in motion graphics and visual effects.

Desirable Skills

• An eye for graphic design, including logo and branding work.
• Skills in any adjacent areas such as illustration, 3D modelling, Animation, or programming languages such as C++, C# or HTML.
• Knowledge of accessibility best practices and a passion for making gaming accessible.
