Whipps Cross University Hospital – Trust Doctor (ST1-2 equivalent) in General Medicine, Fixed Term 12 months.

About the post

There’s never been a better time to join Whipps Cross University Hospital. This is a large, friendly District General Hospital, located on the edge of Epping Forest in Leytonstone. The hospital is undergoing regeneration and renewal and is a centre for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. The Trust supports doctors wishing to undertake research or further medical qualifications and provides opportunities to develop clinical skills in preparation for the MRCP examination. The Department of General Medicine aims to offer a comprehensive range of services to the local population of Waltham Forest, Western Redbridge and the neighbouring part of South West Essex. The department sees a variety of pathology and psychosocial issues, with an older patient population that includes frailty and high rates of dementia and delirium.

  • The inpatient service comprises two general medicine wards, Birch & Blackthorn. Each ward has two ST1-2 level junior doctors with an ST3+ higher trainee staffing it daily in line with the RCP Safe Medical Staffing Guidelines.
  • Develop individualised educational goals with a focus within the candidate’s chosen specialty.
  • Provide a high level of consultant supervision; gain opportunities to engage in audit, research, or teaching as desired.
  • Work within a supportive culture with appropriate recognition of contributions.
