Job description

We seek to appoint a full‑time cardiology TAVI/Structural fellow for 1 year.

The Bristol Heart Institute has been performing TAVI since 2008 and currently performs around 400 cases per annum. Four specialist valve nurses support the running of the structural programme and the fellow will be expected to work closely with them in the pre‑, peri‑ and post‑procedural care of patients. In addition to TAVI there is a comprehensive structural programme including MitraClip, PFO/ASD closure and paravalvular leak closure; depending on time commitments there may be opportunities to be involved in these cases. The fellow can expect to become competent in all aspects of TAVI pre‑, procedural and post‑procedural care including CT assessment and planning, outpatient & MDT review, ultrasound‑guided vascular puncture, valve deployment, percutaneous vascular closure (ProGlide, ProStar, MANTA) and post‑procedural care. In addition to excellent clinical and procedural training all fellows are expected to participate in departmental research and educational programmes, present at national and international conferences, and publish in peer‑reviewed journals.

Research

It is expected that the successful applicant will support active structural research studies working closely with our research team to identify and enrol appropriate patients. There will be numerous opportunities to initiate and develop research streams and to publish.

Education

To contribute to live case meetings once the new AV system is installed.

Administration

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in:

  • Coordination of medical expertise of the TAVI pathway, including MDT and image interpretation
  • Team player, able to develop a culture that values colleagues and specialist valve nurses which enables them to engage in problem solving and decision making
  • Acting as a role model for senior as well as more junior colleagues
  • Understanding and supporting the vision and values of the Trust
  • Providing a role model for clinical leaders and supporting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults
