Job summary

A local youth organization in Newtownabbey is seeking a Youth Worker to engage with young people and support youth programs. The successful candidate will work within various initiatives, assist in program development, and ensure the safety and welfare of participants. Required skills include understanding youth needs and the ability to build relationships. Salary ranges from £7.55 to £12.21 per hour based on age, with a commitment of up to 25 hours per week.

Job description

THE EMPLOYER IS: MONKSTOWN BOXING CLUBMBC has designed this role to provide an individual with hands on experience and training in the field of Youth Work. The purpose of this role is to:
- Work within MBC’S range of programmes, engaging directly with groups of young people in a safe space and within their community.
- To build relationships and to help young people to thrive and succeed.
- To support and assist in the delivery of high quality youth work programmes.
- To work with our core youth work team to develop services and enable young people to fulfil their potential.
Monkstown Boxing Club is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable groups. This post is subject to an enhanced Access NI check.

Responsibilities
  • Recruiting and co‑designing of programmes with young people to meet identified needs, in line with the NI Youth Work Curriculum for Northern Ireland.
  • Assist in the development of curriculum resource materials to enable MBC to deliver effective programmes.
  • Ensure the active participation of young people in the design and review of youth work programmes.
  • Implement effective monitoring and self‑evaluation of agreed work programmes.
  • To support sessions across the whole MBC offer as required, which takes place every evening, weekend and during school holidays and will occasionally include residential work.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Project Coordinator.
  • Commit to a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Represent MBC positively and effectively in all dealings with internal colleagues and external partners.
  • Comply with all policies and procedures, with particular reference to safeguarding, codes of conduct, health and safety, equality and diversity, to ensure all activities are accessible.
  • To assist with any promotional activities and visits that take place at MBC.
  • To be alert to issues of safeguarding and child protection, ensuring the welfare and safety of young people is promoted and safeguarded.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience of youth work and delivering youth work programmes.
  • Experience of developing positive working relationships in a community setting.
  • Strong commitment to young people and ability to engage and build positive relationships with disengaged young people.
  • Understanding of working with young people and with additional needs.
  • Ability to coordinate and deliver fun accessible activities.
  • Knowledge of the issues affecting young people.
  • Understanding of the principles of working with children and young people.
  • Youth Work Level 2 (or equivalent) or working towards.
  • Experience providing information, advice, guidance and support to young people.
  • Experience of monitoring and evaluation processes.
  • Knowledge of health and safety, diversity awareness and safeguarding and how these relate to children and young people.

- Standard Hours: up to 25 hours per week.
