Job description

Our Colposcopy Unit is a centre of excellence for women with pre‑invasive cervical disease. As one of the first units nationally to introduce nurse‑led colposcopy clinics, we currently have four accredited nurse colposcopists delivering outstanding patient care.

We are seeking a dynamic, motivated and resourceful Registered General Nurse to join our team as a trainee nurse colposcopist. This role offers the unique opportunity to undertake specialist training in accordance with British Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP)/RCOG guidelines. Applicants must be a Registered General Nurse with at least two years of current experience within women’s health, gynaecology or primary care, and evidence of post‑registration education.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a defined caseload of patients, including assessment of care needs and setting standards of care.
  • Provide specialist nursing care, treatment and advice to the specified patient group and contribute to developing the specialty service.
  • Support interdisciplinary and whole‐service working, promoting sharing of good practice and delivering high quality, effective and efficient care.
  • Offer training and education to staff groups, patients and families/carers.
  • Lead and mentor junior clinical staff and students, ensuring effective leadership and development at all levels.
  • Maintain quality and safety through participation in audit, research, and local improvement programmes, applying evidence‑based practice.
  • Communicate complex information to patients, families and external partners, ensuring clarity and support.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records in line with NMC and LTHT guidelines.
  • Ensure a safe, clean and secure working environment, adhering to safeguarding and whistle‑blowing policies.
  • Undertake mandatory training and professional development within required time scales.
Qualification and Experience
  • Registered Nurse (RN Adult or RN Child) – Level 1 or 2.
  • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification or equivalent teaching experience.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Willingness to undertake additional training as required.
  • Degree level education or evidence of working towards it.
  • Experience as a Band 5 Staff Nurse or equivalent post‑registration role within the specialty.
  • Audit and standard setting experience.
