Job description

The Council is seeking to recruit two trainee accountants who will be based at the centre of the Council, in the Resources Directorate, which has key responsibility for managing the Council's money and people as well as ensuring that democratic decisions are well informed and legally sound.

As you progress your training, you will learn to provide financial advice and support to a range of services across the Council and in particular to provide a high level of quality in financial management in relation to the following functional areas:

  • Medium Term Financial Planning, Treasury Management, Financial Accounting, Audit and Budget setting.
  • Supporting the development of business cases for capital projects and grant funding for new initiatives.
  • A variety of commercial and environmental developments which require high quality financial information.
  • Driving improvements in the way we provide financial and performance management support to our customers.
The role requires strong and effective communication skills, including the ability to deal with customers who possess varying levels of financial skill.
