Job description

We are seeking a committed and motivated Tenancy Sustainment and Move On Officer to join a local authority in North London, playing a key role in supporting households in temporary accommodation. This is an opportunity to make a real difference by helping homeless families and single people move safely and sustainably from temporary accommodation into permanent homes.

In this role, you will manage a caseload of households for whom the council has a statutory homelessness duty. You will provide an end‑to‑end service, from initial placement into temporary accommodation through to successful move‑on into long‑term housing. This will include regular contact with customers, property visits, ensuring accommodation standards and health and safety compliance, and maintaining accurate case records.

You will work proactively to sustain tenancies by supporting customers to access housing benefit, discretionary housing payments and other financial support, as well as referring to specialist advice services where needed. You will also monitor changes in circumstances, respond to breaches of occupancy agreements, and work closely with investigation teams where concerns arise.

A key part of the role is supporting move‑on into permanent accommodation. This includes assessing housing needs, enabling access to choice‑based lettings, making direct offers where appropriate, accompanying customers to viewings and assisting with applications for furniture and resettlement grants.

You will liaise with internal council teams, managing agents, registered providers and voluntary and statutory partners, including Children’s and Adults’ Services, ensuring safeguarding responsibilities are met at all times.

We are looking for someone who can manage workload effectively, collaborate, communicate clearly with a wide range of stakeholders, and demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting vulnerable residents and delivering high‑quality housing services.
