Job description

We are recruiting a Technician (Drainage) at Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Working hours: 37. Contract Type: Full Time, Permanent. Location: Highway House, Penmaen Road, Blackwood. Team: Highway Maintenance.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to become part of our team and provide support across the organization.

We pay an attractive salary of £28,598 - £31,022 and offer access to training and development opportunities.

The successful candidate will join a small but dedicated team with a focus on cost‑effective and efficient operational maintenance of highway and other drainage assets, including Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).

The post involves responding to and investigating flooding incidents as well as organising routine and reactive maintenance of drainage systems. It would be suited to someone used to working outdoors, often in poor weather conditions, with an ability to critically appraise problems and quickly develop short‑ and long‑term solutions.

For the role, we ask that you have:

  • Relevant Level 3 qualification on the Credit and Qualifications Framework (e.g., BTEC in Engineering).
  • General computer literacy with some knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office applications and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant experience directly related to the job description since qualification.
  • Full UK Category B (Cars) driving licence to drive a Council vehicle.
