Responsibilities
  • Draft and review policy wordings, summaries of cover, application forms and clauses ensuring compliance with legal, reinsurance and regulatory parameters.
  • Develop and review products as required by the business, including wordings, product development and governance.
  • Work with Group Underwriting and third‑party suppliers to agree and sign‑off new policy wordings and other policy documentation.
  • Review and develop free‑format clauses drafted within the business.
  • Research wider market products and propositions to assist with product development, feeding into Product Oversight and Governance as required.
  • Research issues connected with policy wording development and escalates wording issues to the wider business.
  • Act as a specialist referral point and coach around policy wordings and reinsurance, supporting the business unit in ensuring standards are met and technical expertise cascaded, meeting defined service levels (SLAs).
  • Understand and operate within the regulatory framework, including ELTO, product oversight, governance, audit and DA management, and identify and escalated any risks to the business.
  • Work in partnership with Underwriting Operations to enable underwriting of quality business within appetite.
  • Work with Distribution to review options to improve our proposition.
  • Undertake Underwriting Development projects.
Qualifications
  • Experience drafting policy wordings.
  • Cert CII; Dip CII preferred or working towards.
  • Detailed knowledge of general insurance principles.
  • Solid understanding of the regulatory framework.
  • Experience identifying and escalating risk.
  • Analytical approach with high levels of attention to detail.
  • Clear and concise written communication with experience of submitting balanced and well‑considered recommendations.
