Overview

We are seeking a proactive and technically skilled Technical Support Officer to join our ICT & Digital Services team on a temporary basis for an initial period of 12 months. This role is pivotal in supporting the borough’s network infrastructure and undertaking a comprehensive analysis of current provisions across multiple council sites. You will work closely with colleagues across ICT, Digital, and Estates to assess, document, and recommend improvements to our network infrastructure, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of our services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct site visits across the borough to assess existing network infrastructure (LAN/WAN, switches, routers, cabling, Wi‑Fi, etc.).
  • Analyse current network performance, capacity, and resilience.
  • Document findings and produce detailed reports with recommendations for improvement.
  • Support the implementation of network upgrades and configuration changes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure best practice and compliance with security standards.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for network-related issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of network assets and configurations.
About you

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Proven experience in network infrastructure support and analysis.
  • Strong understanding of networking technologies (TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls, wireless networks).
  • Experience working in a multi-site environment, ideally within the public sector.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Flexible with your working hours to meet the needs of the Service.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (travel across borough sites is essential).
  • Experience with Cisco switches is desirable.
