Technical Supply Chain Manager

We are working for a specialist engineering company for a Technical Supply Chain Manager on a Full time, permanent basis located on the Herefordshire, Powys border. This role operates within a specialist engineering and manufacturing environment, responsible for providing technical, strategic, and operational leadership to the Supply Chain function.

  • Monday - Friday - Office hours, permanent full time, site-based role
  • Competitive Salary circa £50'000
What You Will Be Doing
  • Creating and implementing a multi-year supply chain strategy to reduce cost, mitigate risk, and enhance quality and service
  • Providing strong procurement leadership across the Supply Chain team
  • Supporting the organisation's broader strategic vision and continuous improvement culture
  • Leading, motivating, and communicating effectively to ensure strong team performance in line with CI methodologies and supply chain best practice
  • Providing daily leadership to the Supply Chain team, setting clear expectations and stretch targets
  • Creating an engaged, motivated, and high-performing team working collaboratively with cross-functional colleagues
  • Ensuring materials, goods, and services are procured and delivered safely, effectively, and on time in line with production plans
  • Offering technical engineering support to resolve technical queries within procurement and supplier operations
  • Owning all supply chain and procurement processes, documentation, and compliance activities
  • Leading supply chain projects and delivering plans that achieve financial and operational goals
  • Monitoring and reporting Supply Chain KPIs, implementing corrective actions where required
  • Conducting tendering, make‑vs‑buy analysis, and selecting optimal commercial approaches
  • Analysing trends, system data, and conflicting requirements to influence stakeholders
  • Managing supplier performance metrics, including OTIF and strategic supplier development, ensuring full contractual coverage across the supply base
  • Auditing, approving, and monitoring suppliers in line with procedures
  • Supporting NPI activities by reviewing new parts, approving sources of supply, and signing off Supply Chain gate stages
  • Managing obsolescence through early intervention, dual sourcing, and risk mitigation
  • Maintaining product purchase data, supply notes, and accurate cost and lead‑time information
  • Completing ad hoc operational and strategic tasks as required
What We Are Looking For
  • Strong technical understanding with solid engineering foundation knowledge
  • Proven leadership experience at a senior level within Supply Chain or Procurement
  • Excellent people management, communication, and relationship‑building skills
  • Ability to lead and manage change in a dynamic manufacturing environment
  • Strong commercial awareness with ability to influence at all organisational levels
  • Deep understanding of engineering drawings, manufacturing processes, and materials
  • Effective negotiation and performance management capability
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and problem solving
  • Experience working within ISO 9001:2015 quality systems
Qualifications Required

Essential: BTec NVQ Level 4, CIPS qualification, or equivalent experience

Desirable: Engineering‑related qualification
