Overview
A growing food manufacturing business is seeking a detail‑driven Specifications & Raw Material Technologist to join its Technical Team. Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, this role supports group‑wide technical projects, manages raw material risk assessments, and oversees the creation and maintenance of finished product specifications. The role requires strong cross‑functional communication, supplier engagement, and a commitment to ensuring product compliance and technical accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
Specification Management
- Produce and maintain accurate product specifications that meet all legislative requirements.
- Ensure compliance with customer own‑label policies and internal standards for branded products.
- Create and update internal specifications and complete customer portal specifications.
- Review and approve artwork and print proofs to ensure accuracy.
Raw Material & Supplier Management
- Process and prepare raw material specifications for management approval.
- Conduct raw material risk assessments and maintain the Raw Material Directory.
- Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships.
- Act as a technical point of contact for customers and suppliers when required.
General Technical Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to support operational needs and customer expectations.
- Attend and contribute to relevant meetings.
- Maintain a professional working environment aligned with business objectives.
- Undertake additional duties as requested by the Technical Services Manager.
Preferred Experience & Skills
Education & Technical Background
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science or a related field (e.g., Microbiology, Biology, Meat Science).
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in a Specifications, Technical, or Raw Material‑focused role.
- Strong understanding of GMP, food safety standards, HACCP, and risk assessments.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent attention to detail and able to produce error‑free documentation.
- Strong organisational skills; capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Confident communicator with strong written and verbal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and specification systems.
- Able to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.
- Analytical, diligent, and motivated to meet customer timelines and expectations.
