Job summary

A leading defence and aerospace company in England is seeking an experienced Technical Author for a 12-month contract. The role involves producing technical documentation using SGML and XML, with a focus on MOD publication standards like ASD S1000D. You will communicate effectively with ILS Managers and Design Engineers while covering the entire product lifecycle. This position offers a competitive rate of £43ph and hybrid working opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Experience in producing technical documentation in SGML, XML, and traditional formats.
  • Understanding of the whole product lifecycle from design to in-service support.
  • A proven track record of delivering technical documentation to MOD standards.

Responsibilities

  • Write technical documentation enabling safe operation and repair of equipment.
  • Cover the entire product lifecycle through support during design, development, and service.

Technical Author

12 month contract

Based in Stevenage - Hybrid working

As the Technical Author, you will be working alongside a market‑leading Defence and Aerospace company who are constantly growing and developing. They are always looking to bring on new talents such as yourself and further develop your skills to enable you to grow within the company and industry.

Responsibilities
  • Write technical documentation in Standard Generalised Mark-up Language (SGML), Extensible Mark-up Language (XML), and traditional formats enabling safe and effective operation and repair of the equipment.
  • Covers the whole product lifecycle through design, development, and in‑service support.
Skills and Experience
  • Experienced in the production of technical documentation with a detailed knowledge of MOD publication standards ASD S1000D and AESP.
  • Knowledge of SGML editing software (Arbortext Epic), Common Source Data Bases (CSDB for S1000D), and Desktop Publishing systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with ILS Managers and Design Engineers.
  • Strong writing ability for new, complex, and original work.
  • Experience with Simplified Technical English (STE).
