Job description

  • Starting Immediately - Start of January
  • 3 Months Initially - Remote Working
  • £650-£700 - Inside IR35

Talent Consulting is looking for experienced Technical Architects to join a high-profile public sector initiative. This is a unique opportunity to shape an ambitious new architecture program from the ground up, delivering robust digital solutions that serve the public interest. If you thrive on solving complex problems and leading strategic technical direction, we want to hear from you.

As a Technical Architect you will be responsible for;

  • Establish and lead the implementation of organizational standards and templates for technical and product documentation.
  • Create a consistent architectural language and documentation framework that aligns with GDS (Government Digital Service) or industry‑standard practices (such as the C4 model)
  • Lead a focused review of the existing technical estate to rationalise, consolidate, and improve the quality of technical documentation.
  • Drive the migration of legacy documentation into a modern, product‑centered structure that improves accessibility and maintainability for engineering teams
  • Facilitate workshops and deep-dives with technical leads to capture tribal knowledge and formalise it into the new architectural structure.
  • Act as the final reviewer for technical documentation to ensure it is accurate, up-to-date, and provides a clear roadmap for future development.

As a Technical Architect you will hold the following experience;

  • Deep experience working within the UK Public Sector, with a comprehensive understanding of the GDS Service Standard and the Technology Code of Practice.
  • Experience leading projects through GDS Service Assessments, ensuring that architectural documentation supports the "Alpha, Beta, Live" lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to ensure technical documentation and product designs meet public sector accessibility requirements (WCAG 2.2).
  • A track record of defining and implementing architectural documentation templates and standards (e.g., C4 model or Archimate) across a large-scale public estate.
  • Experience in the rationalisation of technical debt, specifically in auditing legacy documentation and migrating it into a modern, product‑centered structure.
  • Demonstrable experience working across an active product estate to identify architectural gaps, security vulnerabilities, or missing integration patterns.
  • Experience aligning technical documentation with Product Management workflows, ensuring that architecture supports user‑centric service delivery.
  • The ability to communicate architectural risks and documentation value to both technical teams and non-technical Senior Civil Servants
