Cloud-Native Engineering | Modern Application Development

Location: London, Manchester or Bristol (Hybrid 60% onsite)

Salary: £80,000

About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a Technical Lead to guide high-performing Agile engineering teams and deliver modern, cloud-native applications for major clients. You will bring deep hands‑on engineering expertise, make pragmatic architectural decisions, and champion best practices that ensure scalable, resilient and secure production systems.

You will play a central role in shaping technical direction, embedding DevOps culture, ensuring strong engineering fundamentals, and working closely with stakeholders to translate requirements into high-quality digital products. This role suits someone who combines strong cloud knowledge, modern full-stack development experience, and the ability to lead engineering teams through complex delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Lead one or multiple Agile development teams, providing hands‑on technical direction across modern cloud‑native applications.

Apply and promote Agile and DevOps principles, ensuring teams deliver iteratively, reliably, and with a strong path‑to‑production mindset.

Guide technical design decisions, ensuring alignment with client goals, engineering best practice, and cloud‑native architecture patterns.

Lead by example across the full stack (JavaScript, TypeScript, modern frameworks), supporting engineering tasks when necessary.

Shape solution delivery approaches including microservices, event‑driven architectures, APIs, serverless and containerised workloads.

Drive high‑quality engineering standards including automated testing, TDD / BDD, CI / CD, observability, performance optimisation and security.

Support DevOps maturity by ensuring robust pipelines, IaC, automated deployments, and consistent cloud environments.

Provide mentorship, coaching, and capability uplift across engineering teams.

Collaborate directly with clients and stakeholders to refine technical requirements and assure delivery alignment.

Resolve complex technical issues across development and deployment phases with minimal disruption to delivery timelines.

Skills & Experience

Strong full‑stack engineering background with hands‑on experience in JavaScript, TypeScript, and modern frameworks.

Proven expertise building cloud‑native applications on Azure, AWS, or GCP (microservices, APIs, serverless, containers, cloud integration).

Excellent understanding of the modern software development lifecycle, engineering best practices, and secure delivery principles.

Experience defining testing strategies and implementing automation using TDD / BDD.

Significant experience with CI / CD pipelines, DevOps tooling, version control (Git), and modern branching / deployment strategies.

Demonstrated leadership within Agile teams (Scrum / Kanban), with the ability to influence direction and drive engineering quality.

Ability to make sound architectural and design choices, balancing engineering integrity with delivery pragmatism.

Comfortable across multiple programming languages and willing to contribute code when needed.

Strong stakeholder engagement skills and experience shaping client‑facing technical solutions.

Proven capability leading engineering teams or complex delivery workstreams.
