Job Description

At South Gloucestershire Council we are immensely proud of the skills, abilities, and compassion of all our social workers and wider team members. As a Team Manager, you will provide essential support, recognition, guidance, and professional oversight to team members.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, strong, and committed leader to join our management group within our 0-25 Disabilities Service, leading the 16-25 Young Adults with Disabilities Team.

We are pleased to say that we provide an Ofsted rated 'Good' service, our Ofsted report can viewed here; we are seeking additional driven professionals to help us to collectively maintain and build on this for the ongoing betterment of the children and young people of South Gloucestershire.

What you will be doing

While you will have the usual targets to achieve, you will be doing so with a very supportive leadership team around you that are always accessible from the very top down.

If you can focus on the people behind the social worker title – we know you will achieve the best for our children and families.

  • Regularly, you will support our social workers to build relationships, undertake assessments, develop plans and deliver purposeful evidence‑based interventions to secure the best outcomes for children in need of support, protection and care.
  • You will be an adaptive and responsive manager, combining a hybrid model of remote and office‑based working with face‑to‑face management (where essential and secure) to meet team and wider service objectives.
  • Maintaining a focus on the individuals in your team, you will promote personal and professional development through the pathways and programmes offered by our wider Children’s Services division.
  • You will have the support, guidance and supervision of an experienced and accessible Senior Leadership Team.
What we need from you
  • We require you to hold a professional qualification eg. MA or BA in social work, DipSW and have a current registration with Social Work England.
  • You need to have an extensive knowledge in a relevant setting such as Adult Social Care, and demonstrable comprehension of the Mental Capacity Act, Best Interest Assessments, or similar relevant experience.
  • You will be able to give examples of your experience of managing staff, or supervision of other professionals.
  • You must have experience of developing and motivating a team to fulfil the changing demands of the service.
  • Given the elements of the role, you will be able to evidence your ability to lead teams to achieve optimum performance in delivering excellent social care services for children.
  • You will have evidence of ongoing continuous professional development and a thorough knowledge of current legislation and practice relating to your service.
What you need to know
  • Please note that due to the nature of this role it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (child and adult) is obtained for this post.
  • You will be required to travel widely within the authority so you must either have a full, valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative means of travel.
  • Business Insurance will need to be added to your current car insurance policy.

Interviews are anticipated to take place week commencing 19th January 2026.
