The SEN Teaching Assistant Vacancy
  • Based in St. Albans, you would be joining the newest school in a highly successful and popular special school group. The St. Albans school is for pupils aged 4-11 years
  • Pupils enrolled have moderate and complex learning difficulties, a high proportion of whom have a diagnosis of Autism.
  • No pupils with challenging or violent behaviours will be enrolled
  • Personal care will be minimal but is part of the expectation of teaching assistant staff when necessary
  • They will be opening their doors at their brand new St. Albans site in January and are seeking to appoint all staff ahead of their opening.
  • Each class will be supported by an experienced class teacher, 3 full time Teaching Assistant staff and a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to support 5 pupils.
  • The school prides itself on providing unparalleled levels of support as well as great facilities and resources for all children.
The SEN Teaching Assistant Role
  • You will need to be an experienced Teaching Assistant who has worked with young pupils with autism or related needs before.
  • You will be working with Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils who have delays in their academic and social ability.
  • You will be working in a fantastically resourced SEN school which is part of a highly successful group on their newest site based in St. Albans.
  • You will be working in a class of 5 pupils alongside other experienced Teaching Assistant staff, a specialist HLTA and a specialist ASD Teacher.
  • The children can be "active" so you will need to be able to concentrate, multitask and bring energy and enthusiasm to the job.
  • The ideal candidate will have good ASD knowledge and some experience of PECS and Makaton but the key to the job is attitude and the school are very willing to train someone who shows passion and a willingness to get stuck in!
