Secondary School Teaching Assistant

£85 – £100 per day – Salary dependent on experience

Full-time / Part Time (3 – 5 days per week)

Monday to Friday

We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistants to join our team supporting students across local secondary schools. This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference in young people’s lives while developing your career in education.

About the Role

Working directly with students aged 11-16 who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), you will provide crucial support to help them access the curriculum and reach their full potential. You’ll be part of a committed team delivering both in-class support and small group interventions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with various special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and social-emotional challenges
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to adapt learning materials and ensure lessons are accessible to all students
  • Support students’ emotional and social development, helping them build confidence and independence
  • Maintain detailed records of student progress and contribute to educational healthcare plans (EHCPs)
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance your SEND expertise
Required Qualifications & Experience:
  • Level 2 qualification in English and Maths (GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent)
  • Experience working with young people with SEND (professional or voluntary)
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and practices
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to inclusive education
Desirable Qualities:
  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or willingness to work towards this
  • Experience in a secondary school setting
  • Knowledge of specific SEND interventions and support strategies
  • First aid qualification

Successful candidates will be required to conduct an interview and complete a vetting process which includes 2 years of reference details, Enhanced Child Workforce DBS if you do not have one, you can get one through Connex Education at the cost of £60.
