Role Summary

Wetherby Senior School was founded in 2015 and is a member of the Inspired Education Group of Schools. There are approximately 450 boys on roll, all of whom study at least one language for 5 years and we regularly add at least 0.5 of a grade Value Added at both IGCSE and A Level. Our students achieve grades that allow them to gain places at top UK universities such as Cambridge, LSE, Imperial, Durham and UCL and universities abroad such as the University of Chicago, Georgetown, Princeton, Bocconi in Milan and the IE Business School Madrid.

At Wetherby Senior School we seek to employ highly professional teachers with the ability and commitment to enhance the life of the School and to work effectively and collaboratively with all members of the School community to further establish and develop the School. Our emphasis on educating the whole boy means that all members of staff are expected to contribute to the pastoral care of a group of students as a Form Tutor as well as contributing to the School’s co-curricular activities.

Wetherby Senior are now looking for a Teacher of Chemistry to start in January 2026. As a teacher at Wetherby you will have the opportunity to build your experience of working with a team of specialists and to develop the teaching of Chemistry in interesting and innovative ways, with the support of the Head of Science. The post could suit a talented newly qualified teacher or one with experience looking to develop their career and who would like the freedom and challenge of working in an independent school. Teaching staff at Wetherby Senior School have experience of teaching in both the maintained and independent sectors and colleagues looking to move into independent education are warmly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality, engaging teaching with high expectations and effective use of assessment.
  • Teach Chemistry up to GCSE (and A Level if qualified), with some KS3 general science.
  • Support pupil progress, providing clear feedback, reports, and tailored support for individual needs.
  • Foster curiosity and academic enquiry, inspiring enthusiasm for Chemistry across the school.
  • Contribute to departmental development, resources, enrichment programmes, and trips.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, attend department meetings, INSET, and share best practice.
  • Support pupils with academic choices, university applications, and wider development.
  • Play an active role in pastoral care, including tutoring and supervisory duties as required.
  • Lead or support co-curricular activities aligned with personal skills and interests.
  • Uphold school policies and values, including safeguarding, health & safety, and equality.
