A government agency in the UK seeks an experienced professional to lead initiatives under its Sustainable Travel Delivery Plan. The role involves managing projects that reduce transport emissions, providing technical advice on sustainable transport planning, and using data analysis to inform decisions. Ideal candidates will have a background in sustainable transport or planning. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to national carbon reduction goals.
This exciting and strategic role sits within the Department for Work and Pensions’ (DWP) Sustainability Strategy Team. DWP has identified 5 carbon hotspots across its operations, one of which is travel and transport. You will support the development and implementation of DWP’s Sustainable Travel Delivery Plan, which is key to supporting cross-government targets on reducing carbon emissions, and to contributing to meeting the national Net Zero carbon target.
As an SEO, you will support the delivery of DWP’s Sustainable Travel Delivery Plan by leading projects that reduce transport-related emissions from business travel, commuting, and contractor activity. You’ll deliver initiatives such as the rollout of a colleague lift-share app, EV charging infrastructure, and improved cycling facilities, while coordinating behaviour change campaigns like Walking Month and Cycle to Work promotions.
You will provide technical advice on sustainable transport planning—such as assessing EV fleet transition feasibility and advising on infrastructure placement—and use data analysis to inform decisions, forecast demand, and identify emissions reduction opportunities. You’ll contribute to Scope 3 emissions reporting, manage supplier contracts, and support funding bids and business cases.
Working collaboratively across Estates, Digital, People, and Commercial teams, you’ll ensure transport initiatives align with wider transformation programmes. You’ll also engage with cross-government networks, bringing in best practice and innovation to drive continuous improvement.
This role is ideal for someone with technical knowledge and experience in sustainable transport or transport planning, who is passionate about delivering real-world change in a large and complex organisation.
