Our client is a global leader in the manufacture of sustainable aluminium packaging for the food industry. With innovation, quality, and environmental responsibility at the heart of their operations, they are committed to driving positive change across their supply chain and product lifecycle.

Role Overview

Our client is seeking a passionate and strategic sustainability manager to lead and develop their environmental and sustainability agenda across UK operations and contribute to global initiatives. This role will be pivotal in embedding sustainable practices, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and driving continuous improvement in line with their corporate ESG goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a UK-wide sustainability strategy aligned with global objectives.
  • Monitor and report on environmental performance, including carbon footprint, energy usage, waste reduction, and recycling.
  • Lead initiatives to improve resource efficiency and reduce environmental impact across manufacturing and supply chain operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Operations, Procurement, R&D, and Marketing to integrate sustainability into business processes.
  • Ensure compliance with UK and EU environmental legislation and industry standards.
  • Represent the company in sustainability forums, industry groups, and with external stakeholders.
  • Prepare ESG reports and contribute to sustainability disclosures for customers and regulatory bodies.
  • Support the UK Sales Strategy and create sales opportunities through retailer and brand engagement.
  • Support product innovation with a focus on circular economy principles and sustainable design.
  • Manage sustainability certificates (Ecovadis, ASI, Sedex, GHG protocol, SBTi)
  • Drive employee engagement and training on sustainability topics.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience in a sustainability or environmental management role, ideally within manufacturing or packaging.
  • Strong knowledge of UK and EU environmental regulations and sustainability frameworks (e.g., ISO 14001, GHG Protocol, CDP, SECR).
  • Excellent project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Analytical mindset with experience in data reporting and performance tracking.
  • Passion for sustainability and ability to influence change at all levels.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience in aluminium or food packaging industries.
  • Familiarity with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and carbon accounting tools.
  • Knowledge of ESG reporting standards and customer sustainability requirements
