Job summary

A local support service is seeking a Support Worker to assist a 14-year-old boy in Crook. The role involves providing companionship and support while engaging him in fun activities during school holidays. You will help with wheelchair support and ensure his safety and emotional well-being. The ideal candidate should have experience with SEN children and first aid training, and be a fun, approachable person. This is a part-time position, offering £13 per hour for 6 hours a week during holidays.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with special educational needs (SEN).
  • First aid training must be current.
  • Driving license preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and happiness of James while out.

Support Worker required to support James aged 14 years who lives in Crook Area.

James is a chatty, loves to socialise teenage boy who enjoys being out and about talking to others and having fun.

James is wheelchair bound, paralysed from the waist down with Spina bifida and hydrocephalus (VP shunt) and a neuropathic bowel and bladder. He can become unsettled if overwhelmed and disregulated.

James will need support with safety crossing the roads, staying safe, and at times may need support pushing his wheelchair if he becomes tired.

Hours / Wage: 6 hours per week £13 per hour. School holidays only. I’m looking for someone who can do fun activities and take James out and about 2 days during the holidays for 3hrs per day.

Duties

Ensure James is safe and happy, support with his wheelchair while out, and provide reassurance if he becomes upset.

Additional Requirements/Information
  • All James needs will be discussed.
  • Experience of working with SEN children.
  • First aid training completed and in date.
  • Preferably have a driving licence but not compulsory.
  • Fun, chatty, approachable person.
  • Enhanced DBS will be required, employer will cover the cost.
