About the job.

As a Support Statistician / Analyst you will be responsible for supporting the Network Analysis & Statistics team to produce high-quality analytical outputs. This helps us provide the evidence for people within National Highways to make informed decisions.

You will be involved in the production of regular reports detailing the performance of our road network; you will contribute to bespoke pieces of analysis on traffic flows and delays, road user safety and customer satisfaction; and provide administrative support to the team. As part of the Network Analysis & Statistics team, you will develop the knowledge, skills and competence to follow an analytical career in National Highways with the purpose of progressing into a specialist role.

Location: Birmingham, Exeter, Guildford or Manchester. Occasional travel to other National Highways locations and key external stakeholder offices will be required.

  • Supporting the production of regular reports showing patterns and trends in performance indicators, including developing tools and dashboards to make processes more reliable and efficient.
  • Participating in analytical and statistical projects supporting business areas such as customer satisfaction, road user safety performance, and delay performance. This will include querying datasets, applying analytical and statistical methods to data, and designing effective data visualisations.
  • Coordinating and responding to data and information requests (e.g. parliamentary questions, freedom of information requests, customer inquiries) within the agreed timescales.
  • Supporting the development of resources, such as training guides and data dictionaries, to enable high-quality use of data across the business.
  • Providing administrative support, as appropriate, for projects across the team.
About you.
  • Able to demonstrate a strong numerical competence and an understanding of statistical and analytical techniques.
  • Knowledge of analytical and statistical computing tools, data query languages or mapping software for interrogating large data sets e.g. Python, SQL, PowerBI, Databricks or similar.
  • Able to communicate analytical results effectively.
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines without compromising on quality.
  • Work experience in a similar analytical role, or relevant qualification in a numerical discipline (e.g. level 4 apprenticeship; undergraduate degree)
