Job description

Five Education is recruiting a confident, resilient and proactive student support assistant to work with apprentices aged 16+ who are training for careers in construction. This is a unique and rewarding role that blends learning support with mentoring and coaching, helping young people overcome barriers, stay motivated and succeed in their training programmes. You will be working with learners who have a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH and learning difficulties, supporting them both academically and pastorally.

A full driving licence is essential as students travel to various training sites and workshops.

Main Responsibilities
  • Act as a mentor and coach, helping learners build confidence, resilience and employability skills
  • Support students in managing their behaviour and staying focused on practical and classroom-based tasks
  • Build strong, positive relationships with learners, tutors and employers
  • Promote independence, good communication, and a professional attitude suitable for workplace environments
  • Travel between sites as required to support apprentices across different training locations
Essential Criteria
  • Confident, proactive and resilient
  • Experience supporting young people with SEND or behavioural needs (education, youth work, or similar)
  • Strong mentoring, coaching or relationship-building skills
  • Able to work full-time, Monday to Friday (term‑time only)
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Right to work in the UK – we cannot offer sponsorship or accept Skilled Worker visas
  • Able to provide two recent references
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one

Please note, if you do not have a Non‑Voluntary Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, we will need to help you process a new one at a cost of £62.70. This will be refunded after 20 days of work with us.

Pay: Five Education operates a PAYE payroll; this is the most transparent way to be paid with no hidden fees such as admin fee or employer's NI. Please note pay rate is for illustration and does include holiday pay.
