Senior Strategy Advisor – The Role
This role is part of the Strategy Unit, working closely with key thinkers and senior leaders both within, and outside the MoJ. You will contribute to shaping long‑term strategic outcomes for the justice system, support senior leaders with evidence, prepare papers for Cabinet and the Permanent Secretary, and manage a range of projects that vary from urgent commissions to more methodical strategies.
Responsibilities
- Intelligence gathering – collaborate with senior leaders and external experts to understand emerging priorities, build relationships across the department, and use that information to align resources and policies.
- Strategic projects – shape strategic outcomes, secure consensus across the MoJ, investigate specific questions and develop recommendations for senior leaders.
- Draft advice for the Permanent Secretary and prepare briefing papers for Cabinet.
- Support cross‑team projects, bring a collaborative mindset, and contribute to corporate activities such as learning & development, induction and staff engagement.
Qualifications & Skills
- Critical & analytical thinking – assess trade‑offs, deconstruct complex problems, interpret data from multiple sources and deliver well‑reasoned advice.
- Contextual awareness – understand how your work fits into MoJ priorities, offer strategic insight and communicate clearly and effectively.
- Relationship building & collaboration – work as a central team, build and maintain links across departments and with external experts.
- Adaptability & pace – manage workload in an ambiguous environment, pick up new tasks quickly and deliver at pace.
- Experience in policy, transformation or strategic roles within government (desired).

- Interview will be conducted via MS Teams; a 5‑minute presentation will be requested for invited candidates.
Salary & Location
National salary range: £42,914 – £46,182. London salary range: £49,325 – £53,081.
Role can be worked in the UK only; hybrid working arrangements are provided where business needs allow.
