Overview

As a Cardiac Cath Lab nurse your role will be diverse and unique. The role will consist of being a scrub nurse for cardiac procedures including PCI, pacemaker insertion, TAVIs, ablations and other procedures. The lab also has a nurse that circulates completing documentation, administering IV medications, inserting cannulas, using the defib. When not in the lab the role consists of monitoring patients post procedure if required, collecting patients from wards, returning patients to wards and giving a proficient handover and supporting the patient in their Cath Lab journey.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as scrub nurse for cardiac procedures (PCI, pacemaker insertion, TAVIs, ablations) and support other procedures as needed.
  • Circulate in the lab: complete documentation, administer IV medications, insert cannulas, operate defibrillator, and assist team as required.
  • Monitor patients post-procedure when required; collect patients from wards; return patients to wards; provide a proficient handover; support the patient through their Cath Lab journey.
  • Demonstrate cannulation skills or willingness to learn; support with IV medication administration as required (staff will explain and support learning).
  • Contribute to lab readiness: assist with cleaning and stocking the labs; work in a structure that is independent within the hospital.
  • Be enthusiastic about developing clinical skills with recent experience in an acute setting or as a new nurse seeking a fresh challenge; enjoy working in a busy environment and be a true team player.
  • Prepare for a busy, physically demanding environment, including standing for long periods in the Cath Lab with lead protection; maintain excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Collaborate with Band 6 and Band 7 teams to maintain a strong 24/7 Primary PCI service, assist in complex structural cases and complex EP work; participate in 24/7 on-call commitments.
  • Join a team of experienced nurses in a challenging, high-acuity clinical environment; work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide high standards of evidence-based care.
  • Engage in ongoing clinical practice development and contribute to a research culture within the nursing team; training will be provided and further academic study is encouraged and supported.
  • Support diversity and inclusion within the workplace; commitment to patient-first care; access to buddy support for new members and flexible working where possible to support work-life balance.
