Job description
Position Overview
  • The post holder will be a HCPC registered Speech and Language Therapist responsible for patients allocated to them and will assess, manage, plan and deliver care, including being professionally and legally accountable.
  • The post holder will support peers and the team leader, work as an effective team member on their own initiative, supervise pre‑registration students, and commit to collaborative working with other health and social professionals and agencies.
  • As a member of the Community Learning Disability Team, the post holder will provide an efficient, effective and coordinated speech and language therapy service.
  • The post holder will take a lead role for their clinical area, overseeing the entire caseload and providing clinical support to team members.
  • Lead the team working with young people in transition with learning difficulties, providing clinical support to team members.
  • To assess, develop and implement speech and language therapy treatment and management for adults with learning disabilities who also have communication, eating and/or swallowing difficulties, and may also have challenging behaviour, delivering the service across Redbridge in a community person‑centred domiciliary role.
  • Organise and prioritise own and others’ workload in the day‑to‑day allocation of work.
  • Provide accurate records of information required by the Trust for audit purposes.
  • Ensure effective risk management at team level through accident/incident reporting, assessing and controlling risk, and ensuring residual risks are added to the Trust register.
  • Work as part of an integrated community learning disability team, contributing to coordination of case management across various health and social care disciplines.
  • Apply organisational knowledge relating to Trust protocols and procedures, particularly moving and handling.
Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High‑Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High‑Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,714 and a maximum payment of £5,941) pro rata for part‑time staff.

Payment of the incentive is applied with 50 paid at the end of the probationary period and the remaining 50% at the end of year two. This welcome package is applicable to external candidates only.
