Job description
Overview

We are excited to announce an opportunity to join the Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS trust as Specialty Doctor in Old Age Psychiatry. The role is to support two clinical areas of Memory Service and Complex Intervention and Treatment Team (CITT) in Swindon. This is a community role where the post holder will be based in Victoria Centre in Swindon with the majority of clinical activities at Victoria Centre with some travelling involved for domiciliary visits. The post is supported by Specialty doctors in the two clinical areas and support from an Old Age Consultant Psychiatrist. The Trust is committed to supporting those Specialty doctors who aspire to obtain consultant status in psychiatry via the Portfolio Pathway route.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the CITT and memory assessment service – history taking, diagnosis, note keeping, report and letter writing, psychiatric and physical examination, pharmacological treatment and discharge planning.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team that makes early diagnosis of cognitive problems and uses meaningful occupation as a strategy for recovery.
  • Deliver quality pharmacological treatment in accordance with NICE guidance.
  • Participate in CPA meetings when appropriate.
  • Be aware of current research and discuss participation in research programmes with patients.
  • Help in the development of memory services in Swindon and across AWP.
  • Liaise with other parts of the service (especially the Primary Care Liaison Service, and CITT when urgent assessments are needed) and GPs and non NHS organisations wherever applicable.
  • Participate in the AWP memory assessment service group.
  • Write up all notes using the Trust’s Electronic Record system RIO, which records time and date of entry. The post holder is personally responsible for entering notes onto the system themselves, ensuring effective and timely documentation and communication of clinical decision making and management plans.
  • Seek Section 12 approval when appropriate (not a requirement of the post).
  • Support the CITT MDT with timely assessment of older adults in the community and clear documentation of assessments in the community.
