A leading NHS Trust in Manchester seeks an ambitious Speciality Doctor in Anaesthesia to join their Anaesthesia team at Wythenshawe Hospital. This is a career enhancing opportunity for an ambitious Speciality Doctor in Anaesthesia to join Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust based within our Anaesthesia team at Wythenshawe Hospital, with an option to undertake additional work at other sites depending on your preference and developmental opportunities.
The Department will endeavour to support applicants looking to apply for consultant posts via the CESR route, and as a large Trust with multiple sub-speciality areas, much of the 2010 Anaesthetic Curriculum can be covered.
The Department will also endeavour to aid successful applicants in the development of specialist interests within the fields of anaesthesia, critical care, pain and perioperative medicine.
Specific job plans will be organised following discussion with the Clinical Directors and Job Planning leads. This may incorporate out-of-hours commitments, or weekend working.
Direct Clinical Care may be fixed in time and place, some fixed in time and some annualised. As part of the Managed Clinical Service of CSS, the post holder may be required to work across the Trust site., Wythenshawe Anaesthetic Department
The department has extensive accommodation including offices for the medical staff, Acute Pain nurses and secretarial staff, a seminar room and a trainee's common room incorporating the Departmental Library.
The Anaesthetic Department has three separate on-call rotas. The General on-call Consultants work a 1 in 10 with prospective cover, on a 2-tier rota. The Acute ICU has a separate rota of 1 in 15 with prospective cover. The Cardiac theatres/ICU has a separate 2-tier rota (which covers ECMO) of 1 in 8 with prospective cover. There is a nurse-based pre-op service which liaises with the individual anaesthetists regarding high-risk patients on their lists and an expectation that individuals will be proactive. There are also five consultant-led high-risk pre-op clinics per week

Trafford Hospital today hosts nine elective operating theatres, along with a four-bedded high-care facility and the Manchester Elective Orthopaedic Centre (MEOC). Elective orthopaedic surgery is mainly carried out at the Manchester Orthopaedic Centre situated within Trafford General Hospital which boasts a dedicated ring-fenced elective orthopaedic facility. This facility offers jointschool, day case and inpatient facilities and has four laminar flow operating theatres.
