The closing date is 14 December 2025

Would you like to be part of leading health and wellbeing service in the provision of mental health and community care? Why not join Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust for the opportunity to flourish and excel in your career and be part of our dedicated medical team.

The Trust is seeking an enthusiastic Specialty doctor to join the Christopher unit Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in The Linden Centre. This vacancy has arisen as a result of the incumbent moving to ST training within the trust.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will primarily be based on the PICU Christopher unit, which is a modern 10 bedded male PICU at the Linden Centre for Mental Health. This Unit provides expert, supportive, short term, individualised, intensive care for service users aged 18 to 65, resident in Essex, who are in an acutely disturbed phase of a serious mental disorder, resulting in increased risks that require them to be treated in a controlled environment for a brief period of time.

The post holder will support the care and management of all patients who are admitted to Christopher unit until their transfer to locality ward, or (more rarely) discharge. Effective communication with GPs, CMHTs, fellow consultants, the pharmacy team, the Mental Health Act Administrators, the inpatient wards and the HTT is essential.

You should be eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold Section 12 (2) approval under the Mental Health Act 1983. You will also need to provide evidence of achievement of ST1/CT1 competences in psychiatry at time of application and likelihood of achieving CT2 competences in psychiatry by the start date of the post.
