Job description
Overview

The post-holder will provide a high quality “shop floor” clinical presence, working in close cooperation with nursing, managerial and medical colleagues to deliver high quality healthcare to the Trust’s patients. The role is based at Darent Valley Hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Provide high quality care to patients.
  • Supervise junior clinical staff.
  • Participate in research, teaching, audit and governance programmes.
  • Cover inpatients under consultant supervision.
  • Take part in consultant ward rounds.
  • Ensure GP electronic discharge letters containing all relevant information are sent.
  • Give advice to clinical nurse practitioners and advise junior medical staff where appropriate.
  • Ensure case notes are properly completed, drug prescriptions are regularly reviewed, appropriate investigations are carried out and results acted upon, and made available for consultant ward rounds.
  • Provide sufficient information to colleagues during handover to ensure consistency of care.
  • Supervise and teach junior clinical staff, including workplace‑based assessments (WPBAs).
  • Engage in teaching, research, audit and governance programmes within the Department.
  • Engage in personal development and appraisal processes to achieve revalidation with the GMC.
  • Work towards and comply with national targets.
  • Participate in on‑call rota (current intensity 1 in 10).

Eligibility & Qualifications
  • At least 4 years full‑time postgraduate training (or its equivalent on a part‑time basis).
  • Of which at least 2 years were in the relevant specialty training programme.
  • Must be able to work unsupervised when needed.
  • Pay on the Specialty Doctor pay scale; point of scale offered in accordance with the Specialty Doctor terms and conditions of pay 2021.
