A leading NHS trust in the City of London seeks an experienced Specialty Doctor in Anaesthesia. This full-time role includes independent work in covering theatre lists and participating in a 1:8 on-call rota. Applicants should have full GMC registration. This is a full-time 10 PA substantive post for a Specialty Doctor in Anaesthesia. The post holder will cover theatre lists independently as per the agreed job plan. The role may involve 1:8 on-call duties on the senior obstetric on-call rota. The mutually agreed job plan will reflect the flexible nature of the role and is expected to evolve over time.
The post will attract up to 2 additional PAs when covering out-of-hours obstetrics or similar general duties on a 1:8 shift rota. Each specialty doctor has 1 PA allocated for SPA (Supporting Professional Activity); SPA activity will be job planned accordingly and agreed on how and where these activities are undertaken. The overall job plan will be managed within the limits of the European Working Time Directive.
The Department of Anaesthesia at Homerton Hospital originated as a satellite service from the Department of Anaesthesia at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in 1986 and is now an independent department within the SWNS directorate. The department maintains strong links with Barts Health NHS Trust, with some consultants working across sites. We are the first department in the UK to gain service accreditation under the Royal College of Anaesthetists ACSA scheme in August 2014, 2018 and 2023. The department is located in purpose-built facilities within the main theatre complex with seminar rooms, office space, IT access and a range of educational resources. Full-time secretarial support is provided.
The department supports participation in formal educational sessions, clinical governance, and quality improvement activities. The post holder will be encouraged to undertake training as clinical and educational supervisors to contribute to teaching trainees and medical students.
