Support Officer Homelessness Prevention & Advice

Esher • Contract • £17.61 per hour (PAYE)

Our client is looking for an experienced Support Officer in Homelessness Prevention & Advice to provide administrative support across the Housing Options Unit, including Social and Supported Housing, Homelessness Prevention and Advice, Private Rented and Temporary Accommodation Teams.

The role requires a minimum of 2 days in the office at Civic Offices Esher and involves handling a high volume of telephone queries from applicants who are homeless or at risk, maintaining records, responding to correspondence and emails, and making appointments for the Homelessness Prevention & Advice Team.

Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support across the activities of the Housing Options Unit to meet increased demand for services around homelessness and the Council’s Housing Register.
  • Answer telephone calls across the three teams as a responsive service, providing general advice, updating records, and responding to correspondence and emails.
  • Make appointments for the Homelessness Prevention & Advice Team and, where directed, for the Private Sector and Temporary Accommodation Team and Social and Supported Housing Team.
  • Carry out functions to secure temporary accommodation for homeless households, explain conditions of placement, monitor occupation and assist in maximizing income.
  • Support processes around the Guaranteed Rent Scheme (GRS) for private sector accommodation and assist in debt recovery.
  • Respond to routine correspondence and provide background information for Councillor, MP, Ombudsman enquiries as directed.
  • Act as a point of contact for applicants or hoteliers for initial enquiries, primarily at placement, referring to the Private Sector and Temporary Accommodation Team as necessary.
