Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a SpecialistPhysiotherapist based at Herts & Essex Hospital in Bishops Stortford. Inthis role, you will be responsible for delivering a complex package ofhigh-quality healthcare, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment andpatient-centred advice for individuals with a wide range of needs such asorthopaedics, care of the elderly and neurology. You will support patients,carers, relatives and multidisciplinary colleagues by providing expert clinicalguidance, education and recommendations to ensure safe and effective care. Inaddition, you will deputise for the Lead Therapist when required, contributingto service delivery, decision-making and high clinical standards across theunit.

Main duties of the job

As aSpecialist Physiotherapist, you will manage a substantial and varied clinicalcaseload, applying advanced theoretical knowledge and practical expertise todeliver high-quality interventions. You will be responsible for supervising,teaching and assessing junior physiotherapists, technical instructors andstudents, ensuring high standards of practice across the team. The roleinvolves regular communication with multidisciplinary colleagues, includingmedical and nursing staff, social workers and other healthcare professionals,as well as engaging with patients, relatives and carers to support safe andeffective care. You will also take an active role in ongoing professionaldevelopment, contributing to departmental training initiatives, and participatingin audit and research activities to support service improvement.

Job responsibilities
  • To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for allaspects of your own clinical work, ensuring a consistently high standard of physiotherapy care for all patients under your management.
  • To hold clinical responsibility for a designated caseload, organising andprioritising workload efficiently and effectively, and undertakingcomprehensive and where appropriate standardised assessments addressing allfunctional mobility issues.
  • To formulate soundly reasoned prognoses and recommend the most appropriatecourse of intervention, developing patient-centred goals that promoteengagement in self-maintenance, productivity and leisure to achieve safedischarge.
  • To facilitate and deliver educational and rehabilitative group sessions,continuously evaluating and modifying treatment programmes in response toindividual patient need and clinical risk.
  • To maintain thorough, accurate and timely assessment and treatment recordsin accordance with legal, departmental and Trust requirements, contributing toevidence-based audit and research to enhance practice.
  • To contribute to service development through compliance withorganisational policies, acting as a Champion for specific service areas,supporting in-service training programmes, and leading aspects of practiceimprovement as required.
