Purpose

Qualified professionals providing technical/professional services and advice to customers within a specific service area. Uses expertise to deliver workload for which they have standalone professional responsibility.

Scope of Work

Their work is grounded in theoretical understanding of their professional field while operating within established procedures and council policies. Responsibilities involve managing a broad range of complex tasks, adapting to changing priorities, and using professional judgement to respond appropriately to varied situations.

Accountabilities / Responsibilities
  • Deliver and manage a full range of professional assignments (inspections, assessments, investigations, caseloads) to meet service requirements and ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory and professional standards.
  • Provide specialist advice and guidance to internal/external customers, offering professional recommendations tailored to each situation.
  • Provide technical support and specialist training to junior colleagues or external partners to ensure they can fulfil their responsibilities.
  • Identify opportunities for improving policies and procedures to enhance practice and customer service, which may include analysing management information for senior colleagues.
  • Plan, control and manage small/medium projects and contribute to larger ones by resolving specific issues, analysing complex data and producing professional reports.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with agencies and service providers to ensure joined-up service delivery and collaborative working.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant field with experience in a similar role OR significant vocational experience at a professional level.
  • Formal professional qualification within specialism (if applicable).
  • Strong understanding of work practices, processes, systems and relevant council policies.
  • Detailed knowledge of professional, regulatory, statutory and corporate standards for the role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to train and mentor other professional staff.
  • Strong relationship-building skills to positively influence others.
  • May be required to undertake lower-graded duties where necessary.
