The role

The Financial Times is hiring a social video producer to join our London-based newsroom team.

We are seeking a journalist who is passionate about social media and telling the FTs biggest stories via the medium of short-form video.

You will play a key role in leading the social media team’s video strategy on TikTok and Instagram working closely with the FTs video and audio teams to produce shoot and edit videos to be published to these platforms and others.

Its essential to have a deep familiarity with best practices in the social media space and be confident turning around high quality videos quickly and under pressure. You will be eager to collaborate with reporters and editors around the world to produce creative and dynamic content.

We are looking for someone with experience of working in a newsroom social media team as this person may also need to support colleagues with copy and social posts during busy news days or when colleagues are on holiday.

This role will help us increase our global social media reach innovate across our social channels and deepen engagement with our audiences.

Responsibilities
  • Pitch produce and edit short-form videos for FT social media accounts.
  • Work with journalists and other producers to shape scripts visuals and editorial angles.
  • Maintain high production standards while managing multiple projects to deadline.
  • Identify the social media teams news priorities each day and pitch ideas for social videos.
  • Contribute to the planning and executing of the FTs social media coverage of major news events around the world. Produce and post social content across all our social channels.
  • Devise social media strategies to promote the FTs documentaries.
  • Use analytics to inform decisions and regularly report back on the performance of our social channels.
  • Develop ideas for optimising and innovating our social publishing with a view both on content and strategy. You may lead experiments with new tools platforms or formats.
  • Train colleagues in their use of social media how to show confidence in front of the camera and how to shoot on location.
Qualifications
  • Experience producing shooting and editing vertical videos for social media.
  • Experience operating DSLR-style cameras. Skilled using Adobe Creative Cloud especially Premiere Pro After Effects Adobe Audition Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing your work in video production and editing.
  • Strong news judgment and how to apply this to the FTs social channels. Youll be able to quickly identify topics that matter to both the FT and our Instagram and TikTok audiences.
  • Deep familiarity with the established social networks and an eye on emerging platforms and video trends. When it comes to social video youll know what works and why.
  • A strong understanding of design principles layout and typography. An eye for what makes a captivating visual story. Youll be expected to create basic graphics and thumbnails for social and to source engaging footage for videos. If you have any motion graphics experience this would be a bonus but not essential.

The social video producer will be expected to work some Sunday shifts as part of a desk rota and be on call on the occasional bank holiday.

FT Newsroom staff are expected to work onsite a minimum of three days per week subject to role requirements and regular review. While flexible working requests will be considered not all patterns are suitable for Editorial roles.
