A private client in Swansea seeks a personal assistant to support a nine-year-old boy with Global Development Delay and ASD. The role involves providing supervision during activities and ensuring safety during outings. The ideal candidate should have experience with children having additional needs, be energetic, and adaptable. This position offers flexible hours, primarily during school term and holidays, with a pay rate of £12.75 per hour.
Please note this is not a Swansea city council job. You will be working with a private client who received direct payments.
A little about myself:
I am a nine-year-old boy who lives in Swansea. I am diagnosed with Global Development Delay and ASD. I have limited communication and let people know my wants by pointing, making sounds and attempts to repeat words. I love spending time at home where I feel my happiest, in my bedroom with all my toys and iPad. I love playing games and will engage for a long time when I am enjoying. I also love going out on my scooter and visiting the local park. I love going to Home Bargains to look around. I am looking for support for someone to help look after me. Supporting me to do activities that I like to do whilst my mother helps to look after my siblings.

Hours of work :
6 hours a week x 39 weeks a year term times
8 hours a week x 13 weeks a year school holidays
Mileage 8 miles a week
Rate of pay.
£12.75
Essential:
I need you to:
• I have no danger awareness when out in the community and need very close supervision.
• I can become distressed in the car if I do not know where I am going. I become anxious and I can hit out. It is important to reassure me.
• It is important that I know where I am going such as going to Home Bargains as this is an activity that I enjoy to do.
• I am a limited eater; my mother will guide you with knowing what I will and will not eat.
Desirable
I’d prefer if:
• You have previous experience of working with children with additional needs.
• To be fit and active and have lots of energy to cope with my demands.
I’d like support with:
• Accessing activities that I love to do.
• Being able to be kept safe when out in the community.
• Having fun and enjoyable times whilst away from my mother.
I will need my PA to:
Respect and understand the importance of privacy and confidentiality.
Be confident, mature and have patience.
Be dependable and arrive on time.
Be friendly with an easy-going manner.
Be adaptable and flexible.
Be supportive but not take over.
Have business insurance on your car to take clients out.
Concerning the position
A trial period will be necessary in the first instance in the form of a six-month probationary period. Salary will be paid monthly (Annual leave is calculated on a pro rata basis). A DBS MUST be processed prior to any commencement of employment. Costs of DBS will be met by Swansea council where applicant is eligible.
