Job description
Overview

Please note this is not a Swansea city council job. You will be working with a private client who received direct payments.

About the client

A little about myself: I am a very happy and energetic young girl with ASD and GDD living in the Pontarddulais area. I don’t speak yet and use a device, gestures and expressions to communicate. I love the outdoors and like trampolining, going to the park, the beach, soft play, gymnastics and swimming. I also absolutely love Peppa pig and bubbles.

Role requirements

You will need to keep an eye on me because I don’t have any awareness of danger and will not know about road safety or holding on to things such as safety bars. I love food, like McDonald’s, pizza and especially ice-cream/lollies.

Responsibilities

I will need a PA who drives to take me to outside safe spaces and fun places for me to develop my social independence. I am shy with new people and so you will need to get to know me at home before we go out into the community to have fun. I am happy to travel in the car with you, but I will need a booster seat.

Driver required to take me out.

Hours of work

  • 4 hours per week term time and 10 miles.
  • 8 hours per week school holidays and 20 miles.
  • Looking for 2 PAs to share the hours ideally.

Rate of pay

£13.13 per hour

Essential
  • You must be patient and kind and happy and like to laugh and be able to keep up with me as I like am very active.
  • You must be able to help me to keep clean after I have used the toilet, but I am fully toilet trained.
Desirable

I’d prefer if:

  • You had experience of children with ASD, as this helps you to understand my behaviours and sensory needs.
Support needs
  • Building emotional resilience in a setting separate to my family.
  • Calming down if I become overwhelmed.
Expectations of the PA
  • Respect and understand the importance of privacy and confidentiality.
  • Be confident, mature and have patience.
  • Be dependable and arrive on time.
  • Be friendly with an easy-going manner.
  • Be adaptable and flexible.
  • Be supportive but not take over.
  • Have business insurance on your car to take clients out.
Concerning the position

A trial period will be necessary in the first instance in the form of a six-month probationary period. Salary will be paid monthly (Annual leave is calculated on a pro rata basis). A DBS MUST be processed prior to any commencement of employment. Costs of DBS will be met by Swansea council where applicant is eligible.
