Job description
About the Role

Join the RAC. Together, we're going places. A competitive base salary of £38,625 with on‑target earnings of up to £50,000, and a guaranteed overtime option that can increase your base salary to £44,385 – plus additional overtime and bonus opportunities. The role is a full‑time 40‑hour week, with core hours from 8:30 am to 5 pm, and one in four Saturdays.

As an RAC Mobile Mechanic in the Service, Maintenance and Repair division, you’ll bring expert vehicle maintenance and diagnostic skills directly to our customers wherever they are – from driveways to office car parks. We’ll equip you for success from day one with your own RAC van, fuel card, full uniform, essential tools and a diagnostic kit.

Think independence, career progression, and real work‑life balance: a 40‑hour week that keeps you moving and out of the same four walls. The RAC has been a trusted name for over 125 years, combining heritage with bold innovation. Now’s the time to join a company that’s redefining roadside repair. If you’re a skilled, practical mechanic looking to be part of something big, this is for you. No CV required when you apply – it’s easier than ever to start your journey with us.

Benefits

Earnings That Motivate – enjoy a market‑competitive base salary of £38,625, with the opportunity to increase your earnings up to £50,000 through bonuses and premium‑rate overtime.

Opt‑in Guaranteed Overtime – after your first month you can choose to work extra rest days at £30 per hour. Just one extra day a month could earn you £3,000 more per year; two extra days could give you an extra £5,000.

Tools to Drive Your Future – get started with a free RAC Ultimate Complete Breakdown Service from day one, plus access to a car salary‑sacrifice scheme (including electric vehicle options) after 12 months, delivering serious tax savings.

Time Off That Matters – enjoy 23 days of holiday (rising to 25 with service), plus bank holidays. We also support work‑life balance with paid family leave, flexible schedules, and practical resources to help navigate personal commitments.

Financial Security & Perks – pension scheme with up to 6.5% matched contributions alongside life assurance cover up to 4× salary (10× optional with flex benefits), designed to support you long‑term.

What You Will Do

You’ll be someone who gets people. Your role isn’t just spanners and engines – you’ll be out on driveways chatting with customers, giving advice, and representing the RAC with pride. Every fix, every chat, and every driveway visit shows what we’re all about. You’ll enjoy a varied day of servicing, diagnostics, repairs and checks, and you’ll also manage your stock, do your reporting and keep those customer conversations flowing.

You think on your feet and are trusted to make the right call for each customer, handling different fixes, faces and challenges every day.
