Job description

The Site Service Engineer is responsible for providing instruction and practical assistance with condition monitoring equipment and resources to both ET Operations Staff and contractors working on National Grid’s behalf as required. They support and manage the day‑to‑day activities of the team, ensuring customer satisfaction. Additionally, they participate in all assurance and audit‑related activities, creating and formalising processes for the various support functions within Site Services in collaboration with the Site Services Manager to aid and deliver for the wider teams.

They manage the condition monitoring team across various locations and oversee the operation of the equipment, including its in and out processes. Furthermore, they coordinate and assist the Site Services Manager and other Site Services Engineers with the existing transformer spares storage facility and potential future locations.

This role will be based in Sundon, Charlton and require some travel. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!

What You’ll Do

• Line management and delivering performance of team members. Dealing with sickness management, discipline, performance reviews, and creating a performance driven culture.
• Lead and manage planned and unplanned maintenance, site routines, and non‑outage defects. Ensuring that all work is planned appropriately with the capabilities to complete the work, with staff selected for the work in accordance with National Grid processes and procedures.
• Lead on embedding the principles of Process and Performance excellence, responsible for the management of performance information and reports on performance, assurance and driving best practice sharing.
• Ensure that everyone is set to work in accordance with National Grids processes and procedures, including provision of risk assessments and method statements, and that toolbox talks take place.
• Monitor, review and progress work undertaken by contractors.
• Carry out cross site safety inspections when required to assist others in engineering services.
• Participate in all corporate audit reviews and external audits to maintain accreditations and continued operation of all activities.
• Participate in the facilitation of creating synergies between departments.
• Liaise with wider Site Services team and Asset Management to share best practice and continuous improvement.
• Maintain good relationships with suppliers on the approved list to ensure we can deliver what is required when its required.

What You’ll Have

• NVQ Level 3 in an engineering discipline / Relevant Experience.
• Full driving licence.
• NEBOSH or equivalent qualification.
• Project Management PFQ or relevant experience.
• Provide advise and equipment when available to support operations delivery.
• Excellent influencing and team working skills to ensure delivery standards are met and maintained.
• Experience of delivering performance improvement in an operation and maintenance related discipline.
• Previous experience supervising others.
• Experience in project management / process improvement.
• Effective planning, resource management, communication, leadership and supervisory skills to lead large groups of staff to achieve efficient completion of tasks.
• Demonstrate a self‑help approach to common work‑related problems, using IT systems to resolve them.
